Feel free to use the driveway to unload your car when arriving or after shopping. However, please do not park here for long as Valentin and Laurence, our neighbors, use the garage for their work and need to be able to get in and out.
A/C and heating
The house has thick historic walls and window shutters and usually maintains a comfortable temperature, even in the heat of summer. Nevertheless, it helps to not open all doors and windows wide during the heat of day. ;-)
In addition, the house is equipped with a good A/C system based on heat pumps (that is reversible as heating for the winter).
On the ground floor, cooling and heating is done with an under-floor installation. You can set the desired temperature on the thermostat in the living room.
On the first floor, the hall and each of the rooms is equipped with A/C and heating through vents under the windows. Each of the room has an individual thermostat to control the room's temperature. However, it is important to switch on the hall (i.e. the thermostat at the top of the stairs). This is the master switch. Once activated, all rooms can independently regulate the temperature.
Terrace awnings
The shades can be extended or retracted with the white Somfy remote. Select the appropriate section with the small rectangular button (one of the leds will light up), and move with the arrows.
TV
The TV has an internet connection, so you can watch Netflix, play music through Spotify, etc.
We also have regular TV channels through Orange. Select HDMI2 as the source and use the Orange set-top box to navigate the available channels.
Laundry
If you want to have some clothes washed, we can arrange for a laundry service. Please contact Elodie to help you further. Alternatively, you could ask our neighbors, Valentin and Laurence, to give you access to the washing machine and dryer if you want to wash some clothes yourselves. Just keep in mind they are not always around, so this is 'best effort'.
Furniture
The furniture and decoration is hand-picked for the villa and we love it. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do, but we would also want to ask you to take care of it. Please use table cloths when eating at the wood table in the living room, use coasters on the salon tables, be careful with the couch, etc. Thank you very much!
Activities
We're sure you will discover the citadel of Carcassonne, the Canal du Midi and the general region. There are plenty of good sources on- and offline, and the Tourist Office is a good starting point.
Below are a few other addresses that you may not have picked up, which are worth a visit.
Kids need to spend energy?
At O2 Aventure they can climb trees, do death rides, etc. Usually makes for easy bed times.
On hot days, Parc Aquaviva is a good option. It has all sorts of inflatables on the water and creates exhausted and wet kids.
For the grown-ups
Michelin obviously has a good selection of restaurants in the valley. Hard to go wrong, including 2 starred options close by.
A bit farther afield, at Gruissan on the Mediterranean coast, is Restaurant La Cambuse du Saunier, situated on the edge of pink salt pans. It's a great family address that never disappoints.
The market at Montolieu is worth a visit too.
